Reading Keeda Community Library, Gurgaon

Why of the Program

In India’s urban slums, migrant families struggle with insecure housing, poor healthcare, and limited services. Children often remain out of school due to frequent migration or lack of documents, and many are pushed into labor to support their families.

Tigra, a slum in Gurgaon, reflects these realities. Our free Community Library was started here to offer children a safe space to read, imagine, and grow—a chance to experience stories beyond survival.

Brief Overview of the Program

The Tigra Community Library is a weekend initiative by Reading Keeda. Launched in March 2025, it has already conducted 17 sessions around books and stories, reaching children who are otherwise excluded from mainstream education. The library provides an open, inclusive space where children gather for stories, conversations, and activities that spark curiosity.

What We Do

  • Run weekly library sessions for children in Tigra.
  • Create safe and engaging reading space in the heart of the community.
  • Use stories and activities to connect with out-of-school children and those involved in child labor.
  • Build trust with families, reinforcing the value of learning through joy.

Current Work

Since March 2025, the library has been held in an open community space. It engages children regularly with stories, discussions, and creative activities, offering them a rare environment of care and imagination.

Future Plan (Next 1 Year)

  • Move from an open setup to a permanent physical space.
  • Expand book collections to increase children’s access.
  • Introduce quarterly nutrition days to complement learning with healthy growth

Together, we can sustain and strengthen this library, ensuring children in Tigra have continued access to safe, story-rich spaces, where they can read, imagine and thrive.
